Combat Athletes/Writers earn CAAN, Inc's services and assistance by demonstrating a sincere effort and desire toward leading a positive crime-free life upon their return to their communities. Upon their return to their communities, CAAN, Inc. will assist these athletes/artists with taking the positive steps and making the positive changes necessary to maintain a crime-free, positive, productive life. CAAN, Inc. will also help Combat Athletes/Artists establish a "Plan B" to their athletic/writing goals. 

Vocational training assistance

VOCATIONAL/EMPLOYMENT REFERRAL ASSISTANCE

*CAAN, Inc. has established a partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware to provide athletes/artists with vocational training in their warehouse, logistics, and culinary arts training programs. Upon successful completion of one of their vocational training, Food Bank of Delaware will provide athletes/artists with job placement assistance. Their contact information is as follows:

TREATMENT REFERRAL ASSISTANCE

Where applicable, C.A.A.N., Inc. can provide athletes/artists with assistance in  obtaining treatment for clinical issues (substance abuse, mental health issues, etc.), when such assistance is requested by the athlete/artist,when said community and/or government treatment referral and assistance services have been exhausted. NOTE: CAAN, Inc. does not provide treatment, as CAAN, Inc. staff is not licensed to provide such treatment.
 
For athletes/artists who want and need substance abuse and/or mental health treatment, provided below are nationwide directories that include contact information for the appropriate treatment providers in the athletes' home states.

REFERRALS FOR FINANCIAL ADVICE

CAAN, Inc. will provide combat athletes/writers with referrals for financial planning and counseling professionals, when requested by the combat athlete/writer.

PRISON OUTREACH

Upon request, and when applicable, CAAN, Inc. staff will provide athletes/artists with support and outreach during their incarcerations, and will help them prepare for community reentry.

LEGAL REFERRALS

Upon request from the athlete/athlete, CAAN, Inc. will provide the athlete with assistance in finding appropriate legal representation. NOTE: C.A.A.N., Inc. does not provide legal services, only referrals to attorneys when requested by the athlete/artist.

ATHLETIC PREPARATION & TRAINING REFERRAL

C.A.A.N. will assist athletes with their physical training, and sport-specific training and conditioning, through the appropriate C.A.A.N. Operating Partners. NOTE: CAAN, Inc.'s current focus is on Combat Athletes (Boxers, MMA Fighters, etc.). 
C.A.A.N. will assist athletes with athletes' exposure to collegiate or professional sports programs, as appropriate, based on each athletes' specific situation.
C.A.A.N will provide athletes who wish to pursue a career as a professional athlete with access to former professional athletes who have agreed to be advisors to these athletes, when such assistance is requested by the athletes, with their pursuit of a professional sports career. NOTE: The relationship of athlete and advisor and any further business arrangements (example: agent services), are separate from and unaffiliated with C.A.A.N.'s

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Financial assistance for any of the above services will be provided by C.A.A.N., Inc., IF:

1) CAAN, Inc. has financial resources available and said financial assistance to the athlete/artist is deemed appropriate, on a case-by-case basis, by C.A.A.N., Inc.’s Board of Directors.                                              
2) It’s been confirmed that the athlete has exhausted and/or is not eligible for all other possible sources, for the requested services or assistance, including any/all possible community and/or government resources. 
3) The Athlete/Artist has not been convicted of any additional crimes, including Violation of Probation charges, since the Athlete/Artist's initial involvement with CAAN, Inc.
NOTE: C.A.A.N., Inc. will not provide money directly to the athletes. Instead, all monies  will be provided directly to the appropriate service provider and/or business establishment. Other types of financial assistance may be provided to athletes, on a case-by-case basis.

CAAN, Inc. will assist athletes with finding appropriate housing, when said community and/or government housing assistance services have been exhausted. NOTE: The following link is to a nationwide housing assistance database, by state, for athletes to utilize who need assistance with finding said housing. NOTE: THERE ARE NO FEES IMPOSED BY C.A.A.N. IN EXCHANGE FOR THEIR SERVICES. ALTHOUGH C.A.A.N., INC. ALWAYS ACCEPTS AND DEEPLY APPRECIATES VOLUNTARY TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS, SAID DONATIONS ARE NEVER REQUIRED FOR ATHLETES/ARTISTS TO RECEIVE C.A.A.N., INC.'s  SERVICES OR ASSISTANCE.

Financial assistance for any of the above services will be provided by CAAN, inc.., IF/WHEN:

 

Said financial resources are available and deemed appropriate, on a case-by-case basis, by C.A.A.N.’s Board of Directors, and                                               

It’s been established that the athlete/artists has exhausted all other possible funding sources for the requested services, and                                          

 

The athlete/artists has demonstrated a commitment to cooperating with the service providers and to leading a crime-free life for a at least ninety (90) consecutive days from the beginning of the athletes' initiation with C.A.A.N. , and continuing to lead a crime-free life once said finanical assistance is provided by C.A.A.N. 

 

C.A.A.N. , Inc.will not provide money directly to the athletes/artists. All funding will be provided directly to the appropriate service provider and/or educational institution.

 

Whenever possible and appropriate, C.A.A.N., Inc.will confer with the athletes’/artists' probation officers, and any other criminal justice entities, for the purpose of fostering the athletes’ positive reintegration into their communities, and the athletes’ efforts toward leading crime-free lives.

C.A.A.N., Inc. will provide athletes/artists with financial management workshops, and other training workshops, whenever said workshops can be arranged.

Athletes

 

  • All combat athletes/writers must at least 18 years of age.

  • Athletes/Artists must be currently or formerly incarcerated individuals, have a criminal history, and/or be vulnerable/at-risk.

  • All athletes/artists must agree to terms of applicable C.A.A.N./Athlete-Artist Memorandum of Agreement & sign said agreement, to initiate C.A.A.N.'s services and assistance. NOTE: A sample copy of the C.A.A.N./Athlete Memorandum of Agreement is available for review on the"Our Athletes" page on this website.

*An exception to the maximum athlete age eligibility requirement will be made for certain professional athletes, and/or certain athletes who have been identified as legitimate professional prospects by the appropriate talent evaluators, in their respective chosen sports. ALSO, there is no age requirement for artists to be eligible for CAAN, Inc. services.

REFERRAL PROCESS*

C.A.A.N. will accept referrals from the following parties:

 

  • Athlete/Artist Self-referrals. 

  • Coaches/Former Coaches, or Teachers of Applying Athletes/Artists

  • Appropriate College/Professional Sports Programs/Organizations, or College/Professional Organizations for the Arts.

  • Community Athletic/Artistic Organizations

  • Prison/Correctional & Criminal Justice Organizations & Programs

  • Other Community Organizations
